THERE ARE FOUR GREEK WORDS FOR “LOVE” USED IN THE BIBLE

Storge (στοργή) storgē It is natural affection. Parental love for children.
Agápe (ἀγάπη) agápē God’s kind of love. Love that ________ expecting nothing in return.
Éros (ἔρως) érōs It is “physical” passionate love. “Luv” that __________.
Philia (φιλία) philía” Affectionate regard or friendship” Love that _______ and ________ .

I CORINTHIANS 13:4-8
Love is ESSENTIAL (I Cor 13: 1-3) EFFECTUAL (vs 4-8) ETERNAL (vs 9-13)

4 *Charity suffereth long, and is kind; charity envieth not; charity vaunteth not itself, is not puffed up, 5 Doth not behave itself unseemly, seeketh not her own, is not easily provoked, thinketh no evil; 6 Rejoiceth not in iniquity, but rejoiceth in the truth; 7 Beareth all things, believeth all things, hopeth all things, endureth all things. 8 Charity never faileth:

1. V. 4 Suffereth Long – “patient endurance under provocation.”
2. V. 4 Is Kind – “active goodness that goes forth in behalf of others”.
3. V. 4 Envieth Not – True love is “not jealous.”
4. V. 4 Vaunteth Not Itsel “does not make a parade”. Love does not brag!
5. V. 4 Is Not Puffed Up – Love is “not arrogant or proud”.
6. V. 5 Does Not Behave Itself Unseemly – Love is “never rude”,
7. V. 5 Seeketh Not Her Own – True love is “never selfish”
8. V. 5 Is Not Easily Provoked – “keeps no record of evils done to it”
9. V. 5 Thinketh No Evil – Love “takes no worthless inventory”..
10. V. 6 Rejoiceth Not In Iniquity – Love does not rejoice in sin; whether it is its own sins, or the sin of others.
11. V. 6 Rejoiceth In The Truth – While love hates all forms of evil, it loves the truth! It rejoices when truth is proclaimed and when truth wins the victory. Love is glad for the truth, even when the truth hurts.
12. V. 7 Beareth All Things – Love patiently endures and overlooks the faults in others. Covers.
13. V. 7 Believeth All Things – Love always places the best possible interpretation on everything that happens.
14. V. 7 Hopeth All things – Love always expects the best outcome.
15. V. 7 Endureth All Things – This is a military term and means that “love does not give up the fort”!
16. V. 8-12 Charity Never Faileth – When everything else in this world has passed away.
