One of the most oft quoted and yet, misunderstood verses in the bible is that of Matt. 7:1 “Judge not , that ye be not judged.” But this verse neither disallows nor discourages Christians from the responsibility and necessity of making moral and spiritual judgements.

The fact is, that God in several places demands that we do make these necessary evaluations of doctrine or behavior [e.g. 1 Corinthians 2:15]. What God forbids is a bitter, hostile, “judgmental,” and unkind spirit which delights in constantly finding fault with others.

“Judge not,” also involves making assumptions and expressing opinions on that which we cannot possibly know or on matters that remain in the purview of God alone.

This attitude that everything and anything is ok for the Christian and should never be questioned or refuted is not only unbiblical but is the haven of cowards and dimwits. WEN
