Thy Words Give Light (Psalm 119:130). Dr.R.L.Horton

Knowing the true God and having a relationship with Him is the ultimate goal of our life on earth, whether one knows it or not. But how is this knowledge and relationship to come about? Psalm 119:130 provides an answer: “The entrance of Your words gives light.…” Without the Word of God, men walk in darkness; they are blind to the displays of God around them. Even though “the heavens declare the glory of God; and the firmament shows His handiwork” (Ps.19:1), the unbeliever goes through life like a sleepwalker, unconscious of his surroundings until God’s Word wakes him up.

Arguments to awake the unbeliever have their place. It is worthwhile to give explanations for the existence of God. Creation research helps account for the existence of the world and life. Discussions of the superiority of the Bible in terms of its scope, coherence, insightfulness into the nature and needs of men, and the solution to their need for salvation, have their place in debates with people (see the Westminster Confession of Faith, I.5.). But ultimately, it is not arguments or so-called proofs that provide light, it is the Word of God itself. If we want to help our children, friends, acquaintances to become children of God, we must give them God’s words. The Holy Spirit uses His Word to give life to the dead, and sight to the blind. Shine the light of the Bible.
